“From an early age, I always wanted to be a doctor. I was not sure what specialty I wanted to pursue but ultimately I decided on obstetrics and gynecology because bringing a new life into the world seemed like the greatest contribution a physician could make.
“I believe my most important accomplishment as a physician is my ability to empathize with my patients. I really care about their well-being and what is going on in their day-to-day lives. I have been treating many of my patients for over two decades. In fact, I am delivering the newborns of women whom I initially brought into this world. That level of trust is very gratifying to me.”

“I am proud to have been delivering quality care to women in our community for nearly 20 years. I believe one of my most important roles is educating women on what to expect before, during and after pregnancy and how to stay healthy. I also believe in treating my patients like family. In my view, there is no better way to start a family than feeling like you are a part of one.
“As the proud father of three, I can certainly relate to the high expectations new parents have for themselves and for raising their children. I truly enjoy talking to my patients and will take as much time as necessary to make them feel at home and comfortable with me as their physician. I feel truly blessed that so many women in our community have entrusted me with their care.”

“I always wanted to be a doctor, even when I was a small child. It was great to have that goal from a young age because I was able to focus my energy on where I needed to go. I always thought I’d be a general surgeon but on my first night in rotation as a medical student on the labor ward, I delivered my first baby. I was so excited, I floated out of the room. I remember calling my mother and saying, ‘I figured out what I want to do!’
“Years later, I still have that same sense of awe about the miracle of birth and the value of human life. Being involved in this aspect of the human existence is profound. My specialty has reinforced for me how to look at every person as an individual. I really care about my patients and what is going on in their lives. I get personal satisfaction from knowing that I helped better the lives and health of my patients. I like to take extra time to teach them about vitamins and to keep them up-to-date on current treatments and wellness. That is one of the reasons why I have branched out into writing iPhone programs to provide information for patients and doctors. It makes me feel good to go the extra mile.”

“I made the decision to become a nurse practitioner because I wanted to help make a positive difference in the lives of patients. Prior to specializing in women’s health, I worked in both an emergency room and acute care setting, which gives me well-rounded experience. Today, I find it personally and professionally rewarding to work with women of all ages here at James River Obstetrics & Gynecology.
“I treat our patients with the utmost care and concern they deserve. This means taking the time to listen to them and answer their questions in simple, easy-to-understand terms. Also, I can really relate to our patients, particularly those who are younger, which makes their visits a positive, rewarding experience.”
